History
During the 1990's, a group of pharmacists from not-for-profit hospitals in New England began meeting to explore the opportunities for collaboration. Over the years, from these informal meetings, a limited liability corporation (LLC) has evolved called the New England Pharmacy Collaborative with members in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The establishment of the LLC provides the legal structure to support and build on the successful work accomplished by this group. New England Pharmacy Collaborative (NEPC) is a member-owned LLC which is managed by the New England Alliance for Health-both located in Lebanon, NH.
NEPC Services
The New England Pharmacy Collaborative provides services for its members which focus on three areas: education, supply chain management, and pharmacy practice. NEPC's primary mission is to support its members with programs, education, and knowledge sharing to continually improve the delivery of patient care in a cost effective manner while enhancing patient safety.
Education — Each year, the LLC holds a two day educational conference for member pharmacists featuring nationally recognized speakers while providing ACPE educational credits. In addition, the LLC holds two conferences for technicians and quarterly meetings to update and educate buyers on new technology applications or upgrades.
Supply Chain Management — A core function of NEPC is working with members to standardize on key services and products with suppliers used in the pharmacy supply chain. The primary focus of standardization is reduction in operating costs, enhanced supplier service, and improved value offered by the supplier.
In addition, the LLC office supports members with price verification, contract compliance, vendor relationships, product availablility, inventory management, and aggregation of purchasing volumes.
Pharmacy Practice — Directors of the pharmacies from member organizations meet on a monthly basis to discuss issues related to pharmacy practice, share knowledge to learn about "best practices," to review clinical information and utilization, and to better understand the impact of changes in practice standards and regulations or laws.
